Dr Manjusha Sunil
Manager (Water Research Commission)
Dr Manjusha Sunil is the Manager for Water Technologies Demonstration Programme (WADER) at the Water Research Commission (WRC). She joined the WRC in November 2015. Manjusha holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of the Free State (UFS). She sits on the Innovation Investment Advisory Committee of the Securing Water for Food (SWFF) Grand Challenge and is the Chairperson of the Innovation for Water and Sanitation division of WISA.
Scientist (Council for Geoscience)
Godfrey Madzivire is Scientist at the Council for Geoscience under the Sustainable Resources and Environmental Competency. He joined the CGS in October 2015. Godfrey is also a part time Research Fellow at University of South Africa (UNISA) in the Department of Environmental Sciences. He is passionate in the sustainable issues especially protection of the water resources and the environment as well as farming.
Godfrey holds a PhD in Applied Chemistry from the University of the Western Cape.
Process Engineer (Umgeni Water)
Karessa Pillay is a process engineer in the Engineering and Scientific Services Division at Umgeni Water. She joined Umgeni Water in June 2012. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu- Natal and a post graduate degree in Water Utilisation Engineering from the University of Pretoria. Her expertise is both in water and wastewater treatment, design and optimisation.
Strategic Executive (Ethekwini Water and Sanitation)
Teddy Gounden is the Strategic Executive Research and Innovation at Ethekwini Water and Sanitation Unit (EWS). He joined EWS in 1987, and has held various senior management positions within the unit. Teddy holds a Bachelor of Commerce and National Teachers Diploma (HED) from the University of South Africa.
Member (JONATI Environmental Services)
Wendy Mey is co-owner of JONATI Environmental Services CC, a company that provides services in the disciplines of environmental consulting, water and wastewater management, field sampling and environmental testing, bee keeping and project management. Wendy holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal and has more than 20 years’ experience in the development and implementation of mine water management solutions.
Water Sector Specialist (Development Bank of Southern Africa)
Mthokozisi Ncube is employed as a Water Sector Specialist within the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) since November 2016. He holds an MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).
Head of Research and Development (Namibia Water Corporation Ltd)
Mr Johannes Sirunda is the Head of Research and Development at the Namibia Water Corporation Ltd. He joined the Namibia Water Corporation Ltd in 2009. Johannes holds a Master of Science in Environment and Water Sciences from the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Technical Account Manager (Dow Water & Process Solutions)
Simon leads the filtration portfolio for Dow in Sub-Saharan Africa for Dow Water & Process Solutions. His background is a water & wastewater process specialist in operations sites across the African continent. He has a strong passion for water on the continent and a key focus in supporting Africa in sustainable water infrastructure development.
Manager (Water Research Commission)
Dr Sudhir Pillay is the Research Manager for Sanitation at the Water Research Commission (WRC). He leads the portfolio in the WRC related to on-site and off-the-grid sanitation. He previously held a research position at Pollution Research Group, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), which looked at the application of Decentralised Wastewater Treatment (DEWATS) in the eThekwini Municipality. His expertise includes: anaerobic digestion, decentralised wastewater treatment, membrane filtration, and faecal sludge management. Sudhir holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UKZN.
Executive Manager (Water Research Commission)
Dr Valerie Naidoo is the Executive Manager for Innovation and Business Development at the Water Research Commission. She has 10 years’ experience in wastewater treatment processes such as anaerobic digestion and activated sludge systems. Dr Naidoo has 5 years’ experience in industrial research and development processes in South Africa, UK and Turkey. She is currently leading research groups undertaking a variety of water related research projects in academia as well as within industry on subjects ranging from industrial wastewater, stormwater, sewerage and biotechnology. Valerie is currently the President of the Water Institute of Southern Africa.
